As a photographer, I spend most of my time behind the camera. So when the time came to get some new headshots, I’m not going to lie, I was dreading it. I am always so awkward in front of the camera. For that reason, I knew for sure I couldn’t get away with doing self portraits. I knew I needed another professional to help me, be my best me. So I decided to reach out to a fellow local photographer, Nicole Bushey.
Having never met her in real life, I was a little nervous to reach out and ask her to swap photos. Asking another photographer to swap is scary but I summoned my courage and reached out. She said yes right away which had me both excited and nervous. I was excited to finally get some good headshots of myself but also nervous because as I mentioned I am a hot mess in front of the camera.
After a few messages back and fourth we decided on a location and time that worked for us both. When the day of came, I decided to let go of my worries and just try and go with the flow. We met and instantly started talking like old friends. I was surprised how easy it was for us to connect and have fun. We did photos for a little over and hour and then grabbed a tea/coffee afterward. The whole experience was great and left me reminded this is how my clients must feel.
Which is why I wanted to take a minute to say, if you’re nervous to be in front of the camera, I get it. If you think you will just be a hot mess and there would be no way I could get a good photo of you, trust me, I get it, but let me assure you, it’s just not true. My job as a professional photographer is to help you relax and be “YOU” in front of the camera. So if you are reading this, thinking, this sounds like you and you’ve been putting off photos for the same reason, I encourage you to reach out and contact me. Let me show you just how good you can feel and look in front of the camera.
And speaking of looking good, check out what a great job Nicole did with that very task. Here are just a few of my favorite pictures from our time together.
